Part 1: Preparing related EpiData Entry files from an Excel™ sheet

  1. Edit the sample Excel™ ORIGINAL.XLS sheet to be ready for export into ORIGINAL.DBF dBase file
  2. Make the ORIGINAL.REC file in EpiData Entry from ORIGINAL.DBF
  3. Create two EpiData data files PARENT.REC and CHILD.REC as a parent and child file
  4. Relate the PARENT.REC file to the CHILD.REC file
  5. Use new related data entry forms

Part 1: Preparing related EpiData Entry files from an Excel™ sheet

This part starts from an Excel™ file with more than 1 row (1 row for every visit) per individual and ends with and EpiData Entry file with a parent file that relates to a child file into which an unlimited number of visits can be entered. This example will limit the number of visits from 1 up to a maximum of 3 visits.


Part 2: Restructure related files into a single file for use in analysis

  1. Relate the CHILD.REC to the PARENT.REC file
  2. Sort by ID and generate a variable to number the visits
  3. Create the combined PARENTCHILD.REC file
  4. Add a PARENTCHILD.QES and PARENTCHILD.CHK file for proper display in analysis
  5. Simple analysis
